Food post!

I've been mostly at home this last week, avoiding going out to spend multiple hundreds of dollars on furniture and accessories for the new apartment like I really want to do. It feels like every time I go outside to do an errand or even just walk around, I end up spending $50-$100.

So instead, I've spent some time holed up in the birdhouse (I'm trying out new nicknames for the pad) teaching myself photoshop and cooking.

Here is part of my spoils... a pretty delicious smoked meat sandwich from the deli across the street. Ok, so this isn't home cooking, but it was lunch on the run, and all I had time to do was photograph it, and eat it. Apparently the meat is flown in daily from Montreal... which doesn't do much for my carbon footprint, but was tasty nonetheless. At almost $10 a pop though, I probably won't be a regular at the deli.

This was a nice meal of roasted potatoes, onions and garlic, with a brown rice and cabbage salad that had a bit of hot salami chopped up in it. Good use of leftover rice and such. I could easily have left out the salami and used black beans or lentils or even tofu in the salad.

And lastly, my lunch today was salami, greens and goat's cheese on fresh multigrain. I believe my search for really really good bread may be over. Terra Bakery on Granville Island has a large variety of great breads.

  2. I almost hear the $100 ching on the cash register as I shut my front door.
